Valentine's Clean Up Party..

Tips for cleaning up after all that romance and fun.

Candle Wax

Candles provide ambiance and are always appreciated on Valentine’s Day!

However, candle mishaps happen. If your bright red, heart candle dripped wax all over the fabric furniture or clothes, don’t panic! First, wait until it cools. Once it’s cooled, use a stiff putty knife or credit card to scrape the wax off of the surface. Next, use a blow dryer on medium heat to soften the remaining wax. Using a paper towel or soft cloth, wipe away the wax as it softens. Once the wax is removed, use soapy water to remove any remaining residue. Wash as normal, checking periodically to make sure all staining is lifted before drying. Tough stains may need pre-treatment and rewash.

Rose Petals

Valentine’s Day and Rose petals are sure to make your night a little more special.

What could a heart shaped line of fresh rose petals on your partner’s white comforter hurt? Turns out, plenty. Move any stained bedding or clothes into the washer as soon as possible! Pretreat with a quality Stain Remover (E.g. SHOUT). For a DIY stain remover, mix one tablespoon of vinegar and one tablespoon of Dawn dish soap. Using a quality laundry brush, lift as much of the stain as possible. When you are ready, set the Washer to “Heavy Soil,” and warm water. Remember, the longer the stain sits, the more difficult it will be to remove.

Chocolate

Again, while romantic and decadent, Chocolate has a tendency to melt when in contact with skin. If you find chocolate "Kiss" stains on bedding or clothing, do this:

First, scrape away any hardened chocolate that you can. If the chocolate is on a small item, you may want to place the item in the freezer for 10-15 minutes, which will make the scraping much easier. For larger items, gently sponge the stain using 1 tablespoon of dish soap mixed with 2 cups of cold water. For clothing with chocolate stains, pre-treat your garment as above. For a DIY stain remover, mix one tablespoon of vinegar and one tablespoon of Dawn dish soap. Using a quality laundry brush, lift as much of the stain as possible. When you are ready, set the Washer to “Heavy Soil,” and warm water.

Red Wine

Who doesn’t love a little Red Wine to set the mood. Unfortunately, we usually find a few

drops (or a complete glass) of red wine on our clothing or linens. Do this: First, quickly soak up as much of the wine as you can with a dark towel or paper towel. If the stain is on an item you can wash (table cloth/clothing), sprinkle salt on the stain to slow the setting. As soon as you can, pour soda water on the stain. This will help lift the stain out of the item. For stubborn stains, use the DIY stain remover described above. Then place the item in the wash and launder as described above.
