Brrrrr.... Winter is Coming..

With Oklahoma's Winter approaching, time to to clean your bedding – including Duvets, Quilts, Comforters, and Blankets.

As most residential machines are too small for this task, visit The Suds Bucket on Harrison Street. Our large capacity, Speed Queen machines accommodate larger blankets and comforters. Plenty of space (fill to a maximum capacity of 75%) means a good wash and clean rinse.

Make Laundry Day a snap! With many available machines, you can quickly wash your clothing, sheets, and comforters at the same time. Here are some tips:

1. Every comforter, Duvet, etc. will have slightly different washing instructions on the care label. Check your bedding’s Instruction Label and follow it exactly (if it reads "Dry Clean Only", don't wash it. Head on over to our friends at Shawnee Cleaners on Independence.)

2. While not quite as dirty as your sheets, it is vital to wash your comforters. Each night, you lose moisture in the form of sweat while you sleep. That moisture, combined with the skin flakes, turns your bed into a breeding ground for dust mites! Your comforter (when protected by a duvet cover) should be washed two or three times a year. A comforter without a cover should be washed every one to two months.

3. Remove Stains. Be sure to "lift" stains with a quality Stain Remover before the wash. We love Shout for this part of the process. Use a mild detergent made for delicate fabrics.

4. The most crucial step to washing your comforter is choosing a machine large enough to accommodate the size of your comforter. The machine should provide enough room for your comforter to "move" during the cleaning process. This prevents a compressed, lumpy comforter.

5. While it might seem obvious to select the deep wash or bulky cycle, your best choice is the gentle or delicate cycle to ensure you don’t ruin your comforter.

6. Check the care tag to see if the instructions recommend air or machine drying. If "tumble dry" is listed, you can toss your comforter into the dryer. Choose a large enough machine for the comforter to move, spread it out as much as possible, and, to ensure your comforter comes out fluffy and lump free, add some dryer balls. Dryer balls reduce drying time and fluff your bedding. Remove every 20 to 30 minutes to redistribute and re-fluff the material.

Folding is a breeze at The Suds Bucket on Harrison. We offer plenty of spacious folding tables.

7. Once the laundry cycle is complete, your Summer Linens are ready for storage and your Cold Weather linens are ready to use.

Want new stuff? See below for links to great deals on bedding and bath essentials. Keep these points in mind: 1. Go with snuggable, comfortable Fabrics. A good example is organic cotton, flannel duvets. In addition to the perfect look and feel, Flannel lends warm comfort to the cooler season. 2. Swap Out Your Sheets. Nothing beats crawling into crisp sheets at night. Durable, breathable bamboo and cotton sheets are a great choice. They are warm and soft to the touch. Select the sateen weave to enjoy a luxurious, silky shine. 3. Swap out your Summer Duvet Insert. In the coming months, Oklahoma weather calls for a warmer duvet. Available in different weights, a down duvet insert is a comfy option. 4. Jazz your space up with throw pillows. Tie the new season look together with your space by adding contrasting throw pillows. Opt for at least 3 different textures and colors to create interest and welcome the new season.

5. Decorate with seasonal pieces like candles, greenery, and baskets. A handy throw adds a nice layer to quickly and easily ready your room for the new season.
