Cold Weather is upon us. Here is how to get your Fall Wardrobe Ready.
Cooler temps mean sweater weather! If you’re ready to break out your sweaters, jackets and warmer layers, here are a few tips:
STEP 1: CREATE SPACE.
First cold snap (think football and Fall)? Time to go through your closet. Place your Summer items in labeled, plastic bins and bring your cold weather kit/clothes out of storage. This is a good time to take stock of what fits, what doesn’t, or what is out of style. Make donations to The Suds Bucket’s Collection Bins for complimentary unwanted clothes.
STEP 2: PROTECT YOUR INVESTMENT.
Moths (like Pantry Moths, and Webbing Clothes Moths) and other insects love sweaters–especially when they are stored in drawers or closets. To deter this activity and add a fresh scent, hang some fresh cedar chip bags or lavender scented sachets to your drawers and closets.
STEP 3: INSPECT YOUR KNITS.
With normal wearing and laundering, It’s not uncommon to find a snag or two. Grab a crochet hook and simply pull the loose thread to the inside of the garment. No scissors! Cutting snags will likely unravel the garment. To remove "pills", shave your sweater with a cheap razor to show those little balls of fuzz who’s boss. We also love the Sweater Stone.
STEP 4: FRESHEN THINGS UP.
Your sweaters could probably use some freshening before being worn again. Put your clean (dry) sweaters -- turned inside out -- into the dryer on the "gentle" cycle and set the temperature to "air" (no heat!). Add a scented dryer sheet and let them “Fluff” them for five or 10 minutes. Does it need more? Clean your sweater in the washer on the delicate setting or wash by hand in cold or room temperature water. Water that’s warm or hot will shrink the sweater, so avoid anything warmer than room temperature in order to keep your sweater in pristine condition. Lay flat and air dry. No matter the care needed, the professionals at The Suds Bucket can advise you on how to best make sure your sweaters are ready to wear.
