Remove Clothing Grass Stains

  1. Prior to the washing machine, rub laundry detergent into the stains with a small laundry brush (it is also helpful to allow the item to soak in a bath of cold water and detergent.)

  2. Once the item has been treated with laundry detergent, wash it in your washing machine until the stain is removed.

  3. Make sure the grass stain is no longer visible after you’ve washed it. If necessary, repeat the first step and wash again.

  4. If you put your garment in the dryer before the grass stain is removed, the green stain will settle and it will be difficult, or impossible, to remove in the future.

How to Remove Grass Stains From Shoes

Trying to remove grass stains from shoes requires some manual effort in order to effectively eliminate the visible green stain.

  1. Get a long handle laundry brush and some vinegar.

  2. Scrub the shoe with the brush and the vinegar to remove as much of the grass stain as possible. Vinegar is a safe and efficient option for most shoes.

  3. You can also replace vinegar (or use a combination) with water and DAWN, our favorite dish soap.

Remove Grass Stains From Jeans

Whether you tumbled on the grass or slid on it during a game, here is an at-home fix for those stubborn spots. Keep in mind that the fresher the stain, the easier it is to remove. Grass stains need to “slide off” the fabric to be removed. Follow these steps:

  1. Wet a cotton ball or old washcloth with rubbing alcohol and fully soak the grass stain to help remove the leftover pigmentation. Allow the rubbing alcohol to sit on the stain until it is dry to the touch.

  2. Rinse the stained area with cool water. Next, apply a quarter-sized amount of detergent to the stained region and gently scrub it with a soft laundry brush for a few minutes.

  3. Put your jeans into a load of wash using cold water and allow the jeans to hang dry in the sun, instead of throwing them in the drying machine. Hanging the jeans to dry will prevent baking in the stain.

Pro Tip: Some grass stains are tougher than others. If the stain is still leaving a green residue, mix a paste of vinegar and baking soda to rub over the spot. Allow it to soak for thirty minutes before being placed in the washing machine. Don’t give up too soon, as the process may take a few tries before your jeans are looking brand new and ready to wear again.

How to Remove Old Grass Stains

  1. Apply hydrogen peroxide bleach solution to the grass stains. Scrub it in with a small Laundry Brush.

  2. Let the garment sit for at least 15 to 30 minutes.

  3. Wash and dry the garment using a regular cycles
