Dread Laundry Day?

If you dread laundry day, you are not alone. While some love it, others hate doing their laundry and put it off as long as possible. As tempting as putting it off may be, there are many reasons why you should do your laundry on a regular basis. When laundry is left to pile up over time, several problems present themselves. First, piled laundry will create wrinkles that are difficult to smooth. When you wash once a week, wrinkles have less opportunity to become a problem. The second issue involves stains. When stains are left untreated, they become more difficult to "lift" or remove. Stains are best treated and laundered as soon as possible. Fun Idea #1: Pace yourself. Laundry doesn't have to be done all at once in one day. What a chore! However, if you complete one or two loads of laundry during the week, the less weekend time you will need to spend in the laundry room. Think about your daily routines and identify periods of time you have available for washing, drying and folding. Depending on the size of your household, you might need to process a load of laundry once a day or once a week. Spend a lot of time cooking? Start a load of wash before cooking, throw them in the dryer while you eat, and fold while watching a movie. Going for a run? Start a load and run. Switch them to the dryer while you shower and dress. Fold while the coffee brews or when you come home for lunch, etc. Basically, remember to pace your laundry through the week and you might just have the whole weekend for other plans.

Fun Idea #2: Sort your laundry as you go. Some days, sorting a huge pile of clothes can take a lot of time. The laundry experts at The Suds Bucket recommend using a laundry basket system. When you take off clothing (typically divided into lights, darks and whites,) drop them in the appropriate hamper or laundry basket. Fun Idea #4: Ask for some assistance. Tasks are always more fun when you enlist your friends and family. In addition to twice as much work getting done and great conversations, spending time with your friends and family will make the time fly. Kids finished with their homework? Have a sock matching and folding contest. Partner offering to help, teach him your fancy jean-folding techniques. Friend wants to talk? Grab a bottle of wine and commiserate. Laundry should never be a burden or the exclusive job of one person.
